AS EQUALS

“A woman will never be as good as a man.” “Women aren’t strong enough to handle this or that.” “They should stay in the house cleaning all day.” These are statements that are very familiar to one’s ears and it has been said countless of times before. But unfortunately, statements like these are still being said and being thought of to this day.

Discrimination in this world is not something new. In this case, discrimination against women, or sexism, is also not something new. However, sexism and discrimination in general, is something that needs to be stopped. People seem to be accepting and are very kind to females, but under all that is someone who is discriminatory and very much sexist. There are numerous of people who are sadly like that. ‘Woman’. According to Oxford Languages Dictionary, a ‘Woman’ is defined as “an adult female human being”. “Human being”. A woman, or women, are people too, they are living, breathing, human beings too. Like men, there are times they are in need of help, love, and care. They work hard and put in so much effort doing their jobs, jobs that are mostly considered for men only. And yet, they are still treated unequally by their bosses, employers, and by the company they work for. The following are 5 issues that fuel gender inequality in workspaces: 1.) Unequal Pay, 2.) Sexual Harassment, 3.) Racism, 4.) Women are promoted less often than men, and 5.) Fear of asking to be paid what you’re worth. These are according to Julie Wilson’s blog at www.asyousow.org. It’s saddening to think about how majority of people aren’t surprised by the five mentioned inequality issues in workspaces.

Women are to be treated and seen as equal by men, and vice-versa for everyone is entitled to equal rights and one shouldn’t be treated as lower or higher forms of life because we are all the same, in a sense that we are all human beings with personal lives that should be treated equally by one another. Peace could be achieved by taking a first step of stopping or preventing sexism. For everyone wishes for peace while living in this world. So, let’s all continue to treat others as our equals and always stay kind to one another.
